Where do your materials come from?

Many of our materials are retrieved from centuries-old factories and warehouses that are scheduled for demolition. In many cases, this pristine wood would have been lost forever if not for the efforts of eco-sensitive deconstruction companies. Much of the magnificent wood rescued from these building was harvested by loggers more than a century ago, in fact, some of the lumber originated from virgin forests that existed when our ancestors arrived.

Why do you kiln dry this already-aged lumber?

Time often plays a role in the life-cycle of these products. Old warehouses are exposed to all kinds of weather and conditions. We re-mill this unique lumber and want to ensure that it has a low moisture content (8-12%) so your floor will lie flat with no problems in the future. Kiln drying also exposes any defects. We set stringent grading policies during each phase of the milling process. These defects are all trimmed and removed before you receive the product.

Why do you provide so many specifications?

We want you to have all the information to make an informed decision for your home or project. Please study our specs carefully, they make a difference in stability and durability. We set and conform to strict standards and therefore guarantee a consistent product with every order.

Why is reclaimed wood more expensive than new wood?

When supplying reclaimed wood (provide link to the reclaimed wood story) products, there is a high waste factor. We have hand-selected each pristine piece and eliminated all pieces with defects so that you're only receiving usable wood. Then it's re-milled so the wood arrives completely ready to be installed. This careful processing takes time and resources, but the end result is that the wood's rich history remains alive for many generations.

What is the availability of this type of material?

Although reclaimed wood is in high demand with somewhat diminishing supplies, we have time-honored relationships with contacts all over the country. They are actively searching out and providing us with pristine, century-old lumber. We maintain large quantities of inventory and pride ourselves in the consistent quality of the products we supply to the industry. We are restoring our home and need to match our moulding with the wood flooring.

Do you offer custom moulding?

Yes! We have many profiles available but can match period and historically accurate profiles for restoration projects. It's as easy as providing an outline of the custom piece. Our sales department can work with you on putting together an entire package of specialty items such as cove, base, and window and door casings.
